What is Sports Medicine?
Sports medicine is a fast-growing healthcare field that focuses on the treatment of athletic injuries. Sports medicine healthcare provides help to athletes and other physically active patients improve movement and performance. These professional also work to prevent illness, injuries, and treat sports-related injuries. The Sport Medicine program at CHS is geared towards students with an interest in observing and assisting Athletic Trainers daily, as well as individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in the medical field. Our goal is to expose you to the field of athletic training and sports medicine through hands-on experience. The program addresses current concepts in athletic training. Areas learned will include, but are not limited to:

What are Student Athletic Trainers responsibilities?
Student Athletic Trainers are responsible for providing basic first aid, injury prevention, rehabilitation of injuries and care of Student athletes. These skills will be learned over a period of time through teaching lesson during the sports medicine class and observations during practice and games.
Sports Medicine Class
Sports Medicine is a full year class designed to teach students the basic of sports medicine and athletic training. Students will be expected to learn anatomy, injuries, medical terminology, rehabilitation as well as the basic knowledge of injury prevention, wound care, first aid/CPR and other emergency procedures that might arise in sports. Students will also be expected to perform practical hands-on applications as well as be able to demonstrate knowledge learned in a practical setting.
All 1st year student athletic trainers will be required to take this course and all admissions into the class will be by teacher approval.
